“The first thing that I noticed about Ion’s website was the
subtitle ‘Ion…search for a graphical usable interface…’

“At the time that I was introduced to Ion, I believe I was
running a 2.x version of KDE that I had recently compiled from
scratch – not a quick job. I was doubtful that anything would
convince me to switch window managers, partially because of the
time I had poured into KDE, and partially because I felt rather
skeptical about Ion’s unique way of handling window management.
Within a week of trying it – the learning curve was admittedly a
bit steep – I was hooked.

“What is Ion about? To quote from Ion’s website, ‘Ion was
written as an experiment on a different kind of window management
model and it tries to address the navigation problem by having the
screen divided into frames that take up the whole screen and never
overlap…'”
