“I would like to tell you about our plans for this week. First
and foremost, we intend to make the code available by morning-time
on Friday, 10/13. WWW.OpenOffice.Org will have a new front page,
and from here you will be able to get access to all of the
projects. There will be projects for the XML formats and
specifications, as well as the APIs. Be aware that what we are
releasing is an early version of the source for StarOffice 6.0.
This is our next generation platform, and our own engineers will be
developing out of the CVS repository on OpenOffice.Org.”
“I also want to let you know a bit more about the project. We
have been working very closely with our partner, CollabNet, to put
OpenOffice.Org together. On 10/13, the site will reflect the
beginning of our journey in the open source community. While the
code repository and the projects will ready, certain items are in
transition. This includes the status of the foundation, roadmaps
and certain copyright issues. This is the largest project of its
kind, and in many ways something that has never been tried on this
scale before. As such, it will take a little time before many of
these issues are completely resolved. We ask your patience as we
move toward this goal.”
