“IBM rattled off a litany of Linux announcements here
Wednesday at LinuxWorld and brought out software and hardware group
executives to pledge support for the open-source
platform.”

“IBM’s software group announced that the ViaVoice
voice-recognition software has been ported to Linux and is
available now; that developers can access for free an application
developers kit with many major IBM applications, including DB2,
Domino and WebSphere; that the NetObjects TopPage Web-page
development software is in beta on Linux; and that IBM is
contributing its code for a journalling file system to the
open-source community.”

“Officials said IBM subsidiary Tivoli Systems is planning to
port its applications to Linux “soon” as well.”

“… many observers were abuzz with what wasn’t happening at
today’s press event. Specifically, Red Hat Inc. was a no-show while
other distributors, notably Caldera, were on hand to announce
partnerships with IBM.”
