“Entera, Inc., a developer of Internet Content Delivery
Technologies, today announced TeraEDGE, the company’s
break-through, standards-based caching software. TeraEDGE allows
service providers and content providers to dynamically replicate
streaming content closer to the end user, thereby improving the
end-user’s viewing experience and reducing bandwidth costs for ISPs
and content providers. For a limited time starting on July 1, 2000,
a Linux beta version of the TeraEDGE software will be available for
free download from www.entera.com. TeraEDGE is the first commercial
Linux-based stream and Web caching software. Soon to be released,
major (OS) platforms will be available for beta version downloads
including Sun Solaris x86, Sun Solaris Sparc, Windows 2000/NT and
FreeBSD.”
“As with all of Entera’s technologies, the TeraEDGE software is
standards-based, highly scaleable, embeddable and includes open
APIs for both agents and the software’s object store. Additionally,
Entera is launching a full Developer Support Program to compliment
the TeraEDGE solution. TeraEDGE’s scalability lends itself to
larger scale supporting of narrowband to broadband applications.
The TeraEDGE engine is embeddable so that it would lend itself to
deployment of future caching solutions like residential gateways or
global positioning systems. The APIs are open to both the
caching agents and for the first time ever in any caching solution,
open to the object store. Entera’s open APIs provide the ability to
build custom software modules for specific needs that extend the
functionality of the TeraEDGE agents and provides the Linux
developer community the ability to write new agents to interact
with the caching engine for multiple caching needs.“
“The proliferation of high speed broadband cable and DSL
combined with the current advances in streaming applications, such
as Web radio and video webcasts, has created an exciting growth
opportunity for ISPs and content providers delivering streaming
media directly to end-users,” says Steve West, President and CEO of
Entera. “Entera’s TeraEDGE solves the current problems of video and
audio quality as well as reduced bandwidth limitations.”
