“SpellCaster Telecommunications Inc., a pioneer in the
development of ISDN(i) and remote access technology for the Linux
operating system today announced it is releasing the source code
for its Babylon software. Babylon provides point-to-point remote
access to and from Linux systems using PPP(ii).”

By releasing Babylon under the GNU General Public
Licence(iii) (GPL) agreement SpellCaster is insuring it is free in
every sense of the word. The GNU GPL governs Linux distribution to
developers and end-users.
By opening Babylon to the software
development community SpellCaster expects to improve the PPP
stack’s cross-platform interoperability. This move will encourage
the software’s migration to alternative hardware platforms and
operating systems like FreeBSD. It also makes the Linux operating
system a more viable option for both commercial and home
users.”

“Our goal is to make a PPP stack that is very easy to set up,”
said Robert Lavigne, President of SpellCaster. “As the developer
community takes advantage of the GPL to integrate Babylon into
their applications, Linux will become a much more viable option for
broad consumer and home use.”
