open-source solutions. Many of these questions seem to have been
encouraged by the seemingly endless stream of highly questionable
assertions from SCO Group as it struggles to find some legal
footing for its court actions against IBM.

“Regardless of the origin, the complaint against open-source
motivations frequently sounds something like this: Businesses rely
on capitalist values for success. Open source relies on
antibusiness licenses like the GNU GPL (General Public License) and
on programmers who write code for some mysterious reason other than
selling licenses for profit. Therefore, businesses need to rely on
closed-source software written with a clear profit motive rather
than open-source software with some untrustworthy, anti-business
