UnixReview.com: Tool of the Month: Quanta Plus

“Last month, I talked about HTML Tidy, a tool for
cleaning up messy HTML generated by WYSIWYG tools and word
processors. This month, I’d like to talk about Quanta Plus, a Web
Development Environment for KDE2. There are a few other Free
Software HTML Editors for Linux and other *Nixes in various stages
of development, but Quanta Plus has nifty features that set it
apart from the others.

I’ve always been partial to Vim for editing HTML, but Quanta has
some features that might lure me away from the joys of vim. I’ve
been using Quanta’s Preview Release 1 for a few weeks. Oddly, the
second preview release wouldn’t compile on my system. I’m looking
forward to the next release to see what features have been added or
improved.

Quanta isn’t a WYSIWYG editor; project files are edited in a
simple editor that has toolbars for inserting various HTML tags.
The table toolbar includes a wizard for generating quick tables, or
you can simply build them one tag at a time.

When you want to see how a project is looking, you can select
preview from the menu — or for hotkey freaks (and I know you’re
out there), simply hit F6 — to view your project using the
Konqueror rendering engine. Granted, your project might look
slightly different in other browsers, but this is a pretty good
approximation of how your project will display in most browsers. If
you prefer, you can also preview your project in Netscape using
Shift+F5. I prefer to use the integrated display, however, because
it doesn’t require an extra window to open.”
