“…You don’t have to remind Murry Shohat that the embedded
Linux space is getting hot. As executive director for the Embedded
Linux Consortium, a new vendor-neutral trade association dedicated
to advancing the use of embedded Linux, Shohat has been charged
with handling the backload of emails and corporate membership
applications.”

“‘We are experiencing one to two members’ signups a day,’ he
says. ‘Most of them are at the top level, companies that want to
put their shoulder behind the embedded Linux movement.
‘”

“The pace has been so rapid, Shohat says, that the organization
has more than doubled its charter membership of 30 companies.
Founded on March 1 at the Embedded Systems Conference in Chicago,
the organization already boasts 62 members. Recent applicants
include Implementa.com, a German firm, and G.Mate, a Korean PDA
manufacturer that uses the Mobile Linux OS developed by Linus
Torvalds and other Transmeta engineers.”
