” Thousands of users have signed a petition to try and
pressurise manufacturers to make Linux compatible device drivers
available alongside Microsoft Windows based ones.”

“The petition organisers… hope to drum up two million
signatures… When the target is reached, the petition will be
presented to the major producers of PC devices, which will be asked
to make specifications available to Linux developers, so they can
include support in their applications.”

“…Minolta is one company ready to embrace Linux and this
week announced it was working with Linux distributor Suse on fully
supporting Linux printers.”

The company said: ‘Linux users can now enjoy high-quality output
from the Minolta Pagepro 8, 18 and 25 printers. The usability
advantage of Linux is naturally dependent on compatible output
devices so that documents generated within the system can be
printed for external recipients.’ “
