The Corel announcement, after all, comes just days before
Microsoft is set to unveil Windows 2000. Corel launched its desktop
version of the Linux system in November and will begin selling a
Linux version of WordPerfect Office 2000 software in April. Will it
push Linux OS over the edge from a server system to a consumer
application?
Bruce Perens, co-founder of the Open Source Initiative and
president of the Linux Capital Group, says the deal positions the
folks at Corel to challenge the Windows 2000 operating system.”
