"A previous article introduced you to the Grid computing
concepts, the new open standard software architecture model (Open
Grid Services Architecture, or OGSA) and the new programming model
for Grid computing (Open Grid Services Infrastructure, or OGSI).
The Globus Toolkit version 3 is the major reference implementation
of the OGSI standard (see Resources). This software is used by a
number of technology initiatives including utility-based computing,
on demand computing, virtualized resource sharing, distributed job
schedulers, and similar applications as a proof of concept for open
standard interoperability using OGSI and Web services architecture.
One such recent initiative is the IBM alphaWorks Emerging
Technology toolkit (ETTK) with Globus GT3 software and samples.
This software and surrounding architectures are still evolving, and
this article concentrates on the recent and stable software preview
(Globus GT3 alpha 3) from Globus.
