Pacific HiTech Opens U.S. Offices: Will Compete With Red Hat, Caldera and S.u.S.E.

Pacific HiTech, the leading Linux distributor in Japan, announced today it was opening U.S. offices and would target the corporate intranet and Internet markets.

"International businesses need global solutions," said Cliff Miller, CEO of Pacific HiTech (PHT). "Our customer commitment is to offer the market's most stable, secure Linux for complete corporate internet and intranet operating systems solutions. Our offices in the U.S. extend that commitment globally."

PHT is headquartered in Tokyo and will base its U.S. marketing and sales force in Oakland and its manufacturing, operations and support functions in Salt Lake City.

PHT will compete for Linux business in the United States with Red Hat Software Inc., Caldera Systems Inc. and S.u.S.E. Inc. of Germany.

Based on International Data Corp. estimates of units shipped, PHT is the world's second largest Linux distributor.
