"Linux latecomer SGI is jumping onto the alternative OS bandwagon in a big way by offering its XFS file system to the open source community.

"SGI will present its journaled file system to open-source aficionados on Thursday at Linux Expo, in Raleigh, N.C."

"Officials for Mountain View, Calif.-based SGI said they were committed to opening up the XFS file system and that they would offer the code later this summer in accordance with Open Source Initiative guidelines."
