"Linux version of Internet server on tap for later this
"Lotus President and Chief Executive Jeff Papows said the
Cambridge, Mass., company will launch a Linux version of its Domino
server by year's end but will not market a version for Novell
Inc.'s NetWare. Papows made his comments during an exclusive CRN
Enterprise Partner Web chat.
"We're looking for delivery of Linux-based Domino for around the
end of the year," said Papows. "Based on the groundswell of
interest, we're bullish on it."
... "visionary" is how Ransom Love, president and chief
executive of Orem, Utah-based Linux supplier Caldera Systems Inc.,
described Lotus' position. "We've moved away from [NetWare-based]
LANs to the Internet. Linux will be in millions of devices, from
handhelds to massively parallel servers. NetWare will not be."
