"Linux version of Internet server on tap for later this year."

"Lotus President and Chief Executive Jeff Papows said the Cambridge, Mass., company will launch a Linux version of its Domino server by year's end but will not market a version for Novell Inc.'s NetWare. Papows made his comments during an exclusive CRN Enterprise Partner Web chat.

"We're looking for delivery of Linux-based Domino for around the end of the year," said Papows. "Based on the groundswell of interest, we're bullish on it."

... "visionary" is how Ransom Love, president and chief executive of Orem, Utah-based Linux supplier Caldera Systems Inc., described Lotus' position. "We've moved away from [NetWare-based] LANs to the Internet. Linux will be in millions of devices, from handhelds to massively parallel servers. NetWare will not be."
