"MandrakeSoft, publisher of the popular Linux-Mandrake operating system distribution, has released its beta version of DiskDrake, a complete hard-drive partitioning tool available for Linux. With the increasing popularity of the Open Source Linux operating system, many users need to install Linux without removing their Windows operating system. However, for many new users, hard-disk partitioning can be the most difficult aspect of installing Linux. DiskDrake gives users a simple, powerful and graphic tool for completing this task. It can be included in an installation procedure or used independently."

"Published under the terms of the General Public License, MandrakeSoft expects the initial version of DiskDrake to improve quickly with contributions from the Open Source software community. A Windows version of DiskDrake is also planned for release by the end of the year."

"MandrakeSoft's release of DiskDrake is testimony to the incredible power of Open Source software," said Pascal Rigaux, DiskDrake project leader. "Open Source software gives people access to the source code, resulting in fast and efficient development and extending DiskDrake's capabilities using existing source code. This means the experts of the world can contribute to the project, an advantage few proprietary development companies can afford. For this reason, we expect DiskDrake to improve very quickly."
