"Microsoft issued a challenge to hackers last week to try to crack an experimental server it established on the Net."

"But constant system outages — some for effectively more than 24 hours — have backfired badly on the company. Posted system details on the server's performance show faults including a failure to post to the guest book, and repeated stoppages caused by a known bug. The Internet Information Server has also been hit, periodically unable to serve pages."
