Linux Laptops & Linux used in Local GovernmentAug 19, 1999, 16:39 (3 Talkback[s])
[ Thanks to Charles Kalil for this report. ]
Radio talk show host John Dvorak of Real Computing interviews Nathan Myers, President of Linux Laptops about his company, that sells laptops with Linux pre-installed. They talk about the challenges that arise when installing Linux on the type of hardware used on most laptops today. Nathan also talks about why he chose Linux for his own laptop and how it led him to form this company
John also interviews Robert Shingledecker, IS Manager of the City of Garden Grove, California about how he went looking for a networking solution in 1995 and ending discovering and deploying Linux successfully to run all the City's network needs. The Garden Grove uses Linux as a mail server, web server, file/print sharing server, database server, imaging server, application server and as a firewall.
There are a couple of errors in the transcript that incorrectly show Nathan and Robert saying Aces and Stogie instead of Acers and SCO, but otherwise a very positive interview for the Linux community. The audio format should be available in ReadAudio format later this month.
