"IBM announced yesterday that it is partnering with SAP to
implement a version SAP's R/3 on Linux on IBM's Intel based
Netfinity servers. IBM also announced the opening of LinuxLab with
SAP, a new development centre in Germany, which is an extension of
IBM's global International Competency Centres."
"ERP is a new departure for Linux. At the moment Windows NT
dominates the low end server market for ERP with, the AS/400
forming the scalability migration path when IBM is involved. By
moving to Linux IBM is helping to undermine Windows NT in this
market. Windows NT will be squeezed between Linux at the bottom and
the AS/400 or high-end Unix at the top. If other ERP vendors
follow suit then this is the beginning of the end for Windows NT in
the ERP market."
