"Some new Linux users are getting a lesson in "you get what
you pay for."
"Amazon.com auction users have been calling Red Hat Software
Inc. for support for recently purchased CDs containing Red Hat
Linux. Only one problem: These customers hadn't bought official Red
Hat Linux. They had bought CD copies of the free, downloadable Red
Hat distribution from Robb Sands. And, according to an official
statement released Thursday, Red Hat doesn't support users who are
running the free version of its operating system."
"These customers, who thought they were getting the commercial
Red Hat product from Red Hat, complained to Amazon.com about the
lack of support. In turn, Amazon called Red Hat, which then
explained its trademark policies to Amazon."
