"Despite proclamations to the contrary, Microsoft is running scared of Linux in at least some areas of its operation. This is particularly the case in the embedded market where Linux has now emerged as a threat to Windows CE, along with other established threats such as PalmOS, NCOS, Java and EPOC. Windows CE has not yet gained significant market share in any of its target markets except the set top box where Microsoft virtually bought it some business with AT&T."
"It could well do without competition from Linux, but it 's got it anyway. So there are groups within Microsoft that have been advocating for the past few months that Windows CE 3.0 should go open source. There has undoubtedly been some heated internal debate on the matter."
