It sports both an Ethernet connection and a 56Kbit/sec. modem. The original NC booted off a network, while this system can boot locally, a la a Sony game system. The system comes with a version of Sun's StarOffice productivity suite." "The $199 NC Version 2 (NC2) will ship with 64Mb of RAM, a 400 MHz Intel processor, and an SVGA monitor connection. The unit will be available with an optional $99 monitor." "We'll start shipping Version 2 in Q1," Ellison said. He indicated Oracle will shortly announce the formation and management team for NC Inc., a freestanding unit that will sell the NC2. NC Inc. will also announce two OEMs, Ellison said."
