"The new NC Version 2, which Ellison demonstrated on stage at
OpenWorld here Tuesaday, is Linux-based and includes a keyboard,
mouse and integrated CD-ROM, which stores the system's operating
system and browser. It sports both an Ethernet connection and a
56Kbit/sec. modem. The original NC booted off a network, while this
system can boot locally, a la a Sony game system. The system comes
with a version of Sun's StarOffice productivity suite."
"The $199 NC Version 2 (NC2) will ship with 64Mb of RAM, a
400 MHz Intel processor, and an SVGA monitor connection. The unit
will be available with an optional $99 monitor."
"We'll start shipping Version 2 in Q1," Ellison said. He
indicated Oracle will shortly announce the formation and management
team for NC Inc., a freestanding unit that will sell the NC2. NC
Inc. will also announce two OEMs, Ellison said."
