"Linux is herald by many, both news journalists and users as the renaissance of UNIX on the desktop. However, some computer users, especially those that are familiar only with Microsoft Windows or MacOS may not understand why UNIX on the desktop is a good thing. Like the Renaissance in Europe, the "rebirth" is always better than the first "birth", this time UNIX is available freely to all without any legal ties to a parent company, and this time the source code is openly available. The return of UNIX, this time in a free form, gives average computer users more power over their computers, and over 30 years of proven methods to increase productivity."
