"Government Technology Services Inc. plans to announce an
agreement with Red Hat Inc. to become the first enterprise-level
reseller of the Linux operating system in the federal information
"Mark Thoreson, inside sales manager for GTSI, said the company
has been kicking around the idea of offering Linux services and
solutions for the past six months. In fact, GTSI's Linux sales
surpassed $2 million last Sept. without a contract in place to
support it, Thoreson said...."
"Thoreson added that Linux already enjoys a robust presence
throughout the federal market, despite the common perception that
it has yet to penetrate government IT shops. Various scientific and
engineering organizations throughout the Transportation Department,
Navy, Federal Communication Commission and other agencies already
have Linux-based systems in place, he said. "It's amazing how many
people are already using it," Thoreson said, adding that the deal
with Red Hat "is only the beginning."
