May 16, 2000, 20:29 (0 Talkback[s])

"QNX Realtime Platform Will Feature SH-4 Microprocessors."

"Hitachi Semiconductor Inc. and QNX Software Systems Ltd. announced today that the QNX realtime platform will support Hitachi's SuperH microprocessor architecture, providing embedded application and network appliance designers a dynamically upgradable and fault-tolerant operating system. The QNX platform will initially support the SH-4, with future plans to support Hitachi's SH-5 architectures. The QNX platform is targeted for network appliances, telecom equipment, and automotive multimedia applications, including in-vehicle email and navigation systems."

"With the Hitachi SH-4 enabled QNX platform, embedded application developers and designers can deploy products that can be upgraded 'on the fly' with new applications, drivers, and protocols, without system downtime. The QNX platform can also recover from software faults without having to reboot, since every driver, OS component, and application runs in its own memory-protected address space."
