"Second, third and fourth graders are using the GNU... Image
Manipulation Program (GIMP) to create expressive and colorful
artwork through the efforts of the Open Source Education Foundation
(OSEF). The children of Corbett Elementary School in Tucson,
Ariz. are enjoying the range of functions the GIMP offers through a
local non-profit organization inspired by Harry McGregor. Corbett
is a K-5 elementary school with 675 students."
"McGregor was a 19-year old college student and member of the
Tucson Free UNIX Group (TFUG) when he first heard from a friend
that this elementary school was in need of Open Source help. He
loaded Linux on donated machines to enable the school to run a
computer network on their tight budget."
"The students are also learning to use word processors,
spreadsheets, Internet browsers--and the GIMP. Each student's Web
page artwork was done completely using the GIMP. Page layout was
done in Netscape Composer."
