"Microsoft Corp. may be King of the Hill in basic software for personal computers, but in the realm of handheld computing a competitor has a near monopoly. Four out of every five personal digital assistants, or PDAs, sold the past few years have come from Palm Inc."

"To take on Palm, which has its own operating system for handhelds, Microsoft launched last month a revamped operating system called Pocket PC."
