"MontaVista Software, makers of Hard Hat Linux's operating system (OS) for embedded applications, has announced that Gregory Haerr is now its chief strategist of graphical user interface (GUI) technologies."
"In his new position, Haerr will head up the company's Microwindows project, officials said. Haerr's experience in the development and deployment of scalable GUIs and graphical application program interfaces (APIs) "for mobile and pervasive applications" played a role in the appointment."
"Microwindows is an Open Source project aimed at bringing the features of modern graphical windowing environments to smaller devices and platforms. "Microwindows allows applications to be built and tested on the Linux desktop, as well as cross-compiled for the target device," Haerr said. "Microwindows' genesis was with the NanoGUI project, and has now been combined into a single distribution. The Win32/WinCE API implementation is known as Microwindows, and the Xlib-like API implementation is known as Nano-X."
