"Cobalt Networks, Inc. manufactures network server appliances
that run Linux. We spoke to Kelly Herrell, Vice President of
Marketing at Cobalt Networks."
"Erik: I saw Stephen DeWitt (CEO, Cobalt
Networks) on CNBC and it seemed as if Cobalt was pulling away from
the "Linux" field and wanted to be seen more as a hardware player.
Would you say this is an accurate characterization?"
"Kelly:Cobalt's focus is on applications.
We use Linux and hardware as elements of the delivery mechanism for
applications, but each of our server appliances are ultimately
focused on the applications they deliver. Our use of Linux is very
important for system reliability, since the applications we deliver
are largely network-based and require high availability.
