"Getting Linux onto the hard drive is only half the battle, then you have to configure and tweak it to your liking and this step can take much longer. Thankfully Mandrake makes this easy. On both systems Mandrake properly detected all of my equipment and set it up with the exception of the TV tuner card. Mandrake includes no software to use the TV tuner card and I hope in future releases they will include video capture software to utilize my TV tuner card...."

"Mandrake has made improvements with the desktop setup of GNOME and KDE. Both now use the same menu system, so, wherever a program is located in the KDE menus it will be located in the GNOME menus at the same spot. This is a very welcome change as I always hate switching between environments having to remember where in your menu system a program is listed."

"The ReiserFS is wonderful! It is a journaling file system and so allows a quick startup after a power failure or incomplete shutdown. The first thing I did after installing with the reiserFS was cut power without shutting down first. Upon reboot checking the drives took all of 3 seconds instead of five minutes. With Mandrake your /boot can also be formated as a ReiserFS."
