"David Sifry, Linuxcare co-founder, paid us a visit on 5 July
and offered some insightful thoughts about Linux and open source in
general. Sifry holds a Bachelor of Science in Computing Science
from Johns Hopkins University and has been involved with Linux
development from a fundamental level, contributing to projects such
as Emacs, Majordomo and even Linux kernel development."
"When asked about the future of open source in general and
whether it was a viable prospect, not just a fad that will
eventually be paid for, Sifry stated, "I have no doubt about the
profitability of open source projects."
"Regarding the profitability of open source, Sifry said that
it is not likely that companies would make phenomenal amounts of
money, as has happened in the past. "Open source development
and consulting provides consumers with a better value product than
just selling software," added Sifry."
