"Dr. Peter Wurmsdobler and Nicholas McGuire have unveiled a plan to launch a new Real Time Linux Consortium (RTLC) at the second Real Time Linux Workshop being held this November in Orlando, Florida. Here is an overview of the purpose and scope of the proposed organization, from Dr. Wurmsdobler . . ."

"The RTL community expressed their interest in a uniform and standardized API which they can rely on. Moreover, for most of them and especially for industry, the existence of such an API with a certain continuity and consistency guaranteed for a longer period, constitutes a basic requirement and condition for the use of RTL. The necessity to form a group that would be in charge of this task was therefore obvious. But who . . . ?"

"Inspired by the Embedded Linux Consortium launched by Rick Lehrbaum earlier this year, the need for a similar solution applied to Real Time Linux became evident. Only an independent platform can guarantee a basis for future development, as is true for so many things on the Internet. Therefore, the creation of a Real Time Linux Consortium was discussed with the major developers, and they agreed. For this reason, a kick-off meeting is planned at the Real Time Linux Workshop on 29 November (Orlando, FL) in order to form such a group."
