"For all of you out there who have considered trying out Solaris 8 for x86, you may be a little intimidated by the scope of the project for installation. Never fear, assuming that you have consulted the hardware requirements page and have found yourself to be in compliance, then you will be pleasantly surprised by the ease with which the install proceeds...."

"I am going to assume that you have now started you installation and have installed the base system and rebooted into the Solaris WebStart installation portion. Here is where the trouble begins for those of us who use the @HOME cable modem. During this portion of the install you will be prompted to select whether your computer is connected to a network or not. I have never been able to use this portion of the install, either for DHCPed or for Static. For some reason, it does not like the way that the @HOME service requires you to connect. Do Not Despair, with a little effort, and some patience, you can complete this setup. Select NON-Networked and proceed to enter your @HOME designated computer name for your computer and select your regional information to set up the time and so forth. Continue with the installation and install the software that you would like that is provided with your copy of Solaris 8."
