"...I used to have Web sites hosted at my ISP, but have run all my domains off of a server in my kitchen since I got DSL about a year ago,'' says Tom Geller of San Francisco, who owns tgeller.com and about a half-dozen other domain names. All reside on a $500 PC running the free Linux operating system."

"In a romantic gesture, Geller recently bought his wife her own domain -- abecedarienne.com -- and surreptitiously copied her Web pages from their GeoCities location to his Linux box. ``Amy loved it,'' he says. ``I gave her a lot of other presents (for her birthday), but this took work and personal involvement, and she appreciated that."

"Geller also provides e-mail inboxes for about 200 acquaintances, essentially operating a free-mail service as well as a Web server."
