"MontaVista Software, Inc., developer of the Hard Hat Linux operating system for embedded applications, and Object Technology International (OTI), a wholly owned subsidiary of IBM and leader in development tools and deployment components for embedded Java applications, announced an alliance to accelerate the delivery of optimized solutions for embedded Linux. OTI's delivery of a collaborative team streaming approach to development utilizing VisualAge Micro Edition (VAME) will debut on MontaVista's Hard Hat Linux at the LinuxWorld Conference & Expo from August 15 - 17 in San Jose, California."

"Targeting the emerging pervasive computing marketplace, the combined efforts of MontaVista and OTI leverage the companies' respective technologies to deliver on the portability and compatibility central to the design of to both Java and Linux technologies. In the world of connected devices, traditional embedded development and porting must overcome the challenges of diverging platform characteristics, constrained memory footprints, and incompatible programming models."

"This represents a significant step in the evolution of embedded development. MontaVista is the only embedded Linux channel for OTI VAME available today. The Hard Hat Linux integration of OTI's tools and "continuous integration" methodology reduces product time to market and deployment costs by bolstering code re-use and fostering collaborative team-based software development and integration over the internet."
