"Linux Arabization Project is a Saudi project that targets the support of Arabic language under Linux operating system. The project offers tools and applications that help the user handle Arabic text and manipulate it under Linux environment. The project also helps preparing a group of software developers who are aware of Linux and the open source methodology of software development. This promising project is funded by the following parties :

"Aedit, the Arabic editor, is an Arabic text editor for Linux operating system. It was built using Pango library. Try using Aedit by downloading it . After downloading the file read the INSTALL file. ... It is quite stable at the moment, but there are certainly still bugs in it... This version inclueds features only available in Glib 1.3,Pango 0.11, GTK+-1.3 and other libraries you can know it from the file INSTALL."
