"Following the success of the opening Installfest 2000 event in Adelaide last month, Sunday August 13 saw Canberra host their own version. The event was sponsored entirely by Linuxcare and was held at their building on Marcus Clarke Street."
"As with Adelaide, the Canberra Installfest was organised by the local Linux user group, in this case CLUG (Canberra Linux Users Group - www.clug.org.au). Linuxcare also chipped in with an information Web site (which can be found at www.linuxcare.com.au/installfest2000/) which allowed people to register for the event and also spread the word."
"Martin Schwenke, regional support engineer for Linuxcare Australia, was there helping to organise the event. "About 30 people attended and by Friday's end we had a couple less than 20 people registered," said Schwenke. This is a far cry from Adelaide's 400 odd attendees, but nevertheless, the installfest still went ahead. "We still had a few people registering on the day, and some who just showed up. Most of the 30 required fresh installs. A few needed help getting X or PPP configured," added Schwenke."
