"Last week, senior Sun executives said that although
the firm's strategy with Cobalt has not been decided, they were
leaning toward replacing Linux with a version of Solaris that
is optimised for appliances. An appliance-specific version of
Solaris is already under development, said Andy Ingram, senior vice
president for Solaris."
"Cobalt's [devices] are true appliances," Ingram said. "You do
not care about the operating system. If we were to convert these
over to Solaris, the end-user wouldn't care. We don't have the
energy to drive two operating systems."
