Re-Imagining Linux Platforms to Meet the Needs of Cloud Service Providers

[ Thanks to Jeff Gerhardt for this announcement: ]

Attn: Listeners of The Linux Show

For those of you who have been coming by the site looking for the show, we thought that we would post this little bit of information to let you all know what has happened to our show. Back in the middle of August we made an announcement that we would be off the air for two to three weeks, because we were going to move the studio.

Well, as they say about the best laid plans of mice and men............

What was supposed to take 2 or 3 weeks turned into a nightmare for all of us at TLS. However, it now appears that we are in the process of coming out of the nightmare.

It is a very long, ugly and complicated story, but here is the short version...............

The first major problem was with facilities. We began the process of moving into a new facility in late August. As I said before, we anticipated being down a few (2-3) weeks. When we started to actually set up in the new location, all kinds of problems started to happen. The power sucked. The network was non-existent. Everything we were promised never materialized. After 4 weeks we gave up and started looking for a new location. The bright side was that it was easy to get out of the lease.

Finding a new location took another 2 weeks. We signed a lease and have been under construction since. We should be able to move in within the next 7 days (we hope) or so. I am hoping that we will be on the air by the second week of October.

The next major problem was LEGAL (man I hate lawyers). For those of you who did not know, Kevin and I have been partners in a couple of Internet businesses over the years. A few of those have made an international splash, a few did not work out. One of the ventures we have been involved with lately, unfortunately falls into the later category.

So, concurrent to all this BS happening with the move, we have been in the process of ending/breaking apart/shutting down one of those business ventures. To make my lawyer happy, I will just say that Kevin and I were "less than pleased" with the business situation we were in, and it had to end. That process turned into a legal nightmare, and was way to ugly to go into here. As with all legal BS, this process has sucked.

But we are coming out of this with a pretty nice NEW facility, and a NEW ISP/Consultancy business that is a much stronger company than the previous situation. Most of all, we trust and LIKE our partners. Because of the fact that it turned so ugly, my lawyer suggested that Kevin and I "lay low," and stay off the air. You see, Kevin and I have a tendency to speak our mind on the show, and it is oft times close to getting us in trouble.

OK, so when are we going back on the AIR.....................

Our hope is to be back on the air next week (the second week of October). We will be having our 3rd annual Halloween Scavenger Hunt in just a few weeks.

A lot of people have been real helpful during the last several weeks. In particular I would like to thank Chris DiBona of VA Linux (Larry too). VA is going to be a major sponsor of TLS, with details on that coming in the near future.

Speaking of "sponsors," everyone could be a help to us there. It has been a real nice two year run, but even NPR gets people to contribute SOME money. We are looking for a several vendors or groups to sponsor parts of our infrastructure, or be cash sponsors. We have a tentative agreement with LinuxMall to act as our Sales Department, and put together some packages that include stuff on the air along with stuff at the mall. That should be very interesting to see all the bugs worked out of that. Well anyway, please contact us at sales@thelinuxshow.com about getting ads on our show.

Well, that is enough for now. I hope to be talking to you all LIVE next Tuesday(one week from today).....
