Re-Imagining Linux Platforms to Meet the Needs of Cloud Service Providers

"Rackspace Managed Hosting, a leading provider of managed Internet hosting services, today announced the launch of its holiday hosting package for customers needing Linux and NT server clusters to support online sales during the holiday rush. The offer enables e-businesses anticipating an increase in online traffic during the holiday season to take advantage of increased network services and extra capacity for their web sites for a limited time period - and then scale back their servers after the holidays, without charge."

"Besides bringing increased profit and record sales, the holiday period can also be a taxing time for e-businesses. Server overload, downtime and loss of business were just a few of the problems experienced by many e-commerce sites during the 1999 holiday season. Systems struggled to cope with the increase in traffic and visitors that overloaded sites causing frequent "Server unavailable" errors."

"Rackspace has bundled several of its network services into a flexible holiday hosting package designed to benefit e-businesses requiring increased bandwidth and server capacity during the holiday period. Customers purchasing server clusters from Rackspace before January 15, 2001 will benefit from reduced setup fees and increased network services to improve their server performance during peak times."
