"Watching some of the industry news lately, I've reached an inescapable conclusion: It's only a matter of time before someone tries to ban online anonymity."

"...Given this environment, how long will it take before some hopelessly deluded, but possibly well meaning, politician "discovers" how easy it is for people to hide their identity from all but the most determined of sleuths, and then decides to try to outlaw such activity? And how well would it "play in Peoria", as the saying goes here in the US, for said politician to promote this as a way to protect kids and other would-be victims from cyberstalkers? I'm convinced that anyone who thinks this wouldn't be music to the ears of most middle class US citizens needs to spend more time in the real world and less time with other geeks. I can already hear the mainstreamers saying, "Why do you want to be anonymous on the Internet? What are you hiding? Besides, if it helps the cops catch the bad guys, and I lets me get news about sales at my favorite stores, what's the problem?"
