"The University of Manchester has announced one of the first European installation of an Intel Itanium processor-based prototype systems from SGI. The system will be used for porting parallel scientific and engineering codes to the Itanium processor platform."

"The Computer Services for Academic Research (CSAR) organisation based at the University of Manchester has announced one of the first European installations of an Intel Itanium processor-based prototype systems, from SGI. The initial configuration is a multi-node Linux cluster with two pre-release Intel Itanium processors per node, and using a Myrinet interconnect. The system will be used for porting parallel scientific and engineering codes to the Itanium processor platform."

"The CSAR service is operated by the CfS (Computation for Science) consortium, which is composed of CSC, SGI and the University of Manchester, which is Europe's premier university computing facility supporting world class research and teaching in all areas. CfS is dedicated to providing state-of-the-art high-end computing facilities to the UK research community via the CSAR service."
