"I started to work on core components two years ago. Back then I
wrote a replacement for kdehelp which meanwhile evolved to
khelpcenter. What was meant to be a simple help browser saw a
number of rewrites because the underlying component architecture
(CORBA based OpenParts -> Kanossa -> KParts) beeing in rapid
flux at that time. I must admit that I got bored of that work
mainly because of the constant framework changes. I later started
the KImageShop project which has been picked up recently by John
Cardiff and is continued under the name Krayon. I have implemented
the latest KControl framework together with Matthias HÖlzer
KlÜpfel and today develop and maintain the panel. I
furthermore had the boring job of coordinating the 2.0

"I got involved with KDE after reading the "call for help" c't
article on KDE AlphaI written by Kalle in 1997. It seems like a
large number of todays core developers got attracted by that
article. Thanks, Kalle! Being a Windows convert I was not happy at
all with the GUI choices available for Unix systems at that time.
While KDE seemed to be a very ambitious project back in 1997 it
looks like it worked out."
