"In his well-attended keynote address at Linux.conf.au, Alan Cox has outlined the changes made for the Linux 2.4 kernel...."

"The major section of the keynote then began with a short explanation of the architectures on which kernel 2.4 runs. It will run unaltered on Alpha and x86 platforms, but patches are available for ARM, IA64, PPC, S/390 and Sparc. Cox then outlined the driver changes for the release. "The core driver changes involve wait queues and all PCI drivers should enable devices." The PCI changes themselves include hot plug PCI registration/management and PCI enablement for plug-and-play systems. These changes should improve support for Linux on laptops."
