"The rumors are true. The 5th Annual Linux Showcase and
Conference (ALS 2001), formerly the Atlanta Linux Showcase,
continues its growth as a national conference by relocating to
Oakland, California in November 2001."
"It is not so much that ALS has moved out of Atlanta, or that it
has moved to the Oakland area," said Jon "Maddog" Hall, USENIX
Director and ALS 2001 Invited Talks Chair. "This move is just the
first step toward making sure that there is equal access to Linux
technical knowledge no matter where you live in the United States.
It's time for ALS to start circulating."
"ALS 2001 Program Chair, Bryan Andregg agrees. "One of the
things that keep people interested in attending and writing for
conferences is the ability to visit places they haven't been to
before. By working with USENIX, ALS has become an international,
technical show. Moving it around allows more people to be a part of
the program and attend."
