"Oddly enough, it's IBM--the former Evil Empire from before Microsoft took over the role. Their pledge to put a billion dollars into Linux this year reflects a bet-the-company strategic insight. They're banking on Linux and open-source software to unify their product line, revive sales of their mainframes, and make them the world's biggest software integration and services provider. This makes Sun Microsystems and Microsoft pretty damn nervous, and with good reason."
