It's news, but it sucks. This month in the SPECweb99 results, Windows 2000 Datacenter scored 8001 conforming connections compared to 7500 conforming connections using Red Hat Linux running the TUX 2.0 accellerated web server. These scores were achieved on nearly identical 8 CPU Dell PowerEdge 8450/700 servers.

Linux has performed better than Windows NT for about a year now in the SPECweb99 results and even lead the whole pack for a while. Linux being on that list was one of my best advocacy points, especially since it is an independent source to verify Linux performance versus Windows, Solaris, et. al. I wonder if anyone from Dell or Red Hat can give us a post mortem on the bottleneck?

The overall winners are the Sun Fire 4800 (12 CPU system) with 8739 connections and an IBM eServer pSeries 680 (12 CPU system) with 8344 connections. Windows comes in 3rd and Linux comes in 4th.
