Aug 06, 2001, 19:51 (12 Talkback[s])
"San Francisco, 12:15pm PT, Mon., Aug. 6 - The Electronic Frontier Foundation just spoke with (EFF attorney) Robin Gross, who is down in San Jose for Dmitry's bail hearing. The judge rubberstamped the agreement reached by Dmitry's attorney, Joe Burton, and the U.S. Attorney. Here are the details:

ElcomSoft is putting up a $50,000 bond for Dmitry's bail. Dmitry is being released into the custody of a local man of Russian decent who shares mutual friends with Dmitry. Dmitry is restricted to Northern California.

That's it. The U.S. Attorney will continue to hold Dmitry's passport, which they confiscated when he was arrested. There is no electronic monitoring or otherwise invasive limitation on Dmitry.

As of 11:45am, they were still waiting outside the courthouse for Dmitry to emerge, once the bond was paid and he was outprocessed. EFF offline activist Katina Bishop reported that there were a good 50 protesters outside, and the courtroom was packed."
