Re-Imagining Linux Platforms to Meet the Needs of Cloud Service Providers
SuSE Linux has launched SuSE's Free Linux Program for US High
Schools Phase II of its successful campaign to develop greater
awareness of open source computing and SuSE Linux throughout US
high schools. Administrators, IT specialist or teachers of computer
science at secondary educational institutions are invited to
participate in the program immediately. The announcement of the
second phase emphasizes the development of open source computing as
the IT standard for operating systems and applications worldwide.
Initially, SuSE will sponsor 2,000 boxes of SuSE Linux throughout
US public and private high schools.
"In the first months of this year, 2500 have been distributed to
High Schools throughout the US," said Holger Dyroff, director of
sales of the company's US operations. "In Phase II, we are
expanding our discussions and contacts with teachers who are
sharing their experiences and information about Open Source in a
mailing list. From the introductory phase, we received enthusiastic
email, stating that the students were very excited about their
first experience with SuSE Linux and Open Source. They enjoyed it
because it was free and it allowed them to be on the cutting edge
of technology. The days of proprietary operating systems dominating
the computing landscape are limited and our program allows the
world to see the changes taking place today."
Peter Farina, Montini Catholic High School, Lombard, IL: "The
program was useful to me, my students and the school itself. In the
computer club, we set up a dual-processor server and 5 workstations
from some older donated hardware. I believe you have a truly
excellent product. Thanks so much for running this program."
SuSE Linux supports web servers, local area networks,
enterprise-level computing and personal computers. SuSE encourages
high schools to apply to the program by completing an email form
located at http://www.suse.com/cgi-bin/schools.pl.
