New Hewlett Packard Business PC's to Offer Mandrake Pre-Installed

[ Thanks to cpca for this link. ] Hewlett Packard's new e-pc 40 Business PCs -- small footprint, Celeron-based machines -- offer a Mandrake 8.0 install option. The company says the machines are certified by LinuxCare to also run TurboLinux, Red Hat, and SuSE. The new PC's will be available October 1 at prices ranging from $589 to $1366.

The machines walk the fine line between PC and appliance, with HP touting the "sealed box" nature of the components, which "prevent unauthorized hardware changes" and a clear emphasis on USB connectivity (the machines come with four ports.)

The machines offer a choice of Celeron 900 MHz, 950 MHz, 1 GHz or 1.1 GHz processors, up to 256MB of RAM (from the factory... the machines can be expanded to 512MB), an integrated NIC, integrated sound, 5400 or 7200 RPM 20GB hard drives, and a 20x CD-ROM. Some of the machines also ship with 15" to to 19" monitors.
