"Microsoft Corp. on Friday sought to downplay the
growing popularity of the Linux operating system in India, claiming
the Windows system remained far ahead of its competition in South
Asia.
"There is no real threat from Linux. If you go the Linux path
you won't get very far,'' Mark Phibbs, Microsoft's business
development manager in Asia, told The Associated Press.
Indian software companies are increasingly opting for
Linux-based solutions to be able to offer cheap and user-friendly
information technology devices."
